Ki's Roasted Goose
The Taste of Legacy.
Ki’s Roasted Goose Restaurant has been an iconic destination for Hong Kong-style barbecue since 1976. Their relentless pursuit of perfection has led to dedicated research and innovation in the art of roasting, bringing us the classic Cantonese roast beloved by the people of Hong Kong.
Our concept pays tribute to the goose and draws inspiration from the postures and forms of geese—such as flying, walking, standing, and resting. We use these cues to influence the overall interior elements, particularly in the colour palette, furniture selection, and lighting design.
House of Forme worked with the client on their interior design, FF&E design and styling.
Highlighting The Essence of Goose.
The shop's exterior, adorned with glazed tiles that echo the vibrant hues of a goose's beak and the soft texture of its feathers, creates a striking first impression. An illuminated sign beside the entrance, reminiscent of beloved Hong Kong-style bistros, invites passers-by to step inside. Freshly roasted goose displayed at the storefront tempts onlookers, drawing them into culinary curiosity. Throughout the restaurant, thoughtfully crafted taglines celebrate its legacy and roasting philosophy, weaving a narrative that honours tradition while inviting guests to savour every moment.
Creating A Multi-sensory Experience.
The vision draws inspiration from the goose, deconstructing the layers of a roasted bird—from skin and fat to meat. The interior experience is influenced by the natural tones, forms, and textures found within these layers. Oak wooden frames encase brown glass, enhancing the sense of space, while a cleverly designed lightbox wraps around the top of the walls, illuminating the restaurant above. Eye-catching display boards are strategically placed in prominent corners, inviting curiosity and engagement. The accent wall sconces are designed to mimic the curve of a goose's neck, adding an unexpected touch to the ambience.
To pay homage to classic Hong Kong-style bistros, the seating arrangement features cart-style seats, evoking a sense of nostalgia. At the back, a continuous L-shaped banquette provides flexibility for larger groups, allowing friends and families to gather and share meals in comfort and style. This captures the essence of communal dining, reminiscent of the vibrant dining culture that thrived in local eateries.
A Harmonious Tribute to Tradition.
The ceiling's shape mirrors the body of a goose, creating a cohesive and thematic architectural element that draws the eye upwards. Beneath, the floor features patterns reminiscent of traditional Hong Kong bistros, grounding the space in nostalgia, warmth, and a sense of familiarity. Throughout the restaurant, custom brass signage adds a touch of sophistication, seamlessly blending modern design with classic elements.
