Ten Questions With Our Creative Director
Where do you call home today?
I would say Hong Kong – Given my time living abroad for so many years, I’m still magnetic to this concrete jungle.
Where have you lived in the past?
I’m a nomad. I was born in Hong Kong, went to boarding school in Canada, back to Hong Kong for a brief year then went to England to finish off secondary school. Later on I went to Central Saint Martins in London, then back Hong Kong where I started the agency in 2019.
Where did you learn about design?
Apart from my studies and work experiences, travelling with my parents when young. My parents are both entrepreneurs and I would travel with them while they worked. I’ve also lived across three continents which allowed me to see the size of the world. It opened my eyes to the power and possibility of design across culture and time.
How do you describe what you do to people outside the industry?
I help companies tell their stories through thought provoking design experiences. Experiences that changes how people feel, think and do.
Where do you find inspiration?
I’ve always described myself as a sponge. I love travelling, learning about people and cultures and collecting old things. I’m attracted to objects embedded with their own sense of nostalgia, for me it feels like stories waiting to be told. Luckily for me, I am able to tell these stories through our projects.
What values do you promote in your agency culture?
Curiosity, honesty, humanity and authenticity. I see House of Forme as a platform for my team to create work that they like, but no matter how junior or senior you are, you have to be able to get your hands dirty and design human experiences together as a team.
What are your passions beside design?
I’m a bit of an extremist. One day you will find me riding the slopes with a dirt bike or catching waves by the beach. Another day you will find me crawled up with a good book or hunting rare vintage watches. I love watching films and being indulged in nature whenever I find the time.
What are your strengths?
I would say I am a rather good salesman for a designer. But what really comes down to it is being persistent and believing in what you’re worth. The power of your will and passion is more than words can describe.
What motivates you the most?
People. I’ve had the pleasure to work with a lot of talented people and I’m lucky to say some are now my mentors, clients or friends that I aspire to be one day. Surround yourself with great people and you will become one.
What does success look like to you?
Having the luxury to continue to do what I love and have the ability to empower people to do the same.
